BAHRAIN, June 27 (World Daily Times) — Bahrain said Iran launched drones into its territory on Saturday, setting off a wave of condemnation from Gulf states that described the strike as a threat to regional security and peace efforts.

Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry called the attack a “flagrant threat” to the kingdom’s security. The Gulf Cooperation Council’s secretary-general, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, called it “treacherous” and said it would undermine peace efforts.

Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry said the Iranian strikes were “a dangerous undermining of endeavors for peace and stability” and a threat to regional security. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates also condemned the attack, with the UAE saying it stood with Bahrain’s safety and stability.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said on state-run television that it had targeted several locations in the region, according to reporting cited by Fox News. Bahrain and the Gulf states did not release details in the statements cited on the exact locations hit inside the kingdom.

The attack came as tensions remained high across the Persian Gulf. In a separate statement, Gulf foreign ministers meeting in Bahrain denounced Iranian assaults on Bahrain and Kuwait and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
