NEW ORLEANS, June 27 (DC Times Online) — James Carville is calling for Democrats to consider a formal split after New York primary wins by candidates described as aligned with Zohran Mamdani, saying he “can’t be in the same party” as Darializa Avila Chevalier and that it is time to talk about “schism.”

On a Politicon podcast appearance, Carville said, “I’m done,” and added that he was “not in that f***ing political party.” He said Democrats who reject that view should “start your own movement” or “form your own party.”

The veteran Democratic strategist singled out Avila Chevalier, described in the coverage as a Democratic congressional candidate and union organizer, after her New York primary win. He said he objected to remarks attributed to her about interracial relationships, and he said he did not want to belong to a party “that denies the right of the state of Israel to exist.”

Carville also said candidates with those views had “no place” in his party and should be outside the Democratic caucus, according to the reports.

The remarks build on Carville’s July 2025 New York Times op-ed, summarized by the Washington Examiner, in which he warned of a coming “civilized civil war” inside the party and said it should wait until after the 2026 midterms.
