UNITED STATES, July 2 (DC Times Online) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement made more than 10,000 arrests in five days, according to a Department of Homeland Security source cited by Fox News Digital, as DHS said nearly 70% of ICE arrests involve people charged with or convicted of a crime in the United States.
DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said, “Nearly 70% of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S.”
The arrest tally was reported as the Supreme Court rejected President Donald Trump’s bid to end birthright citizenship.
In New York City, ICE administrative arrests increased about 35% from fiscal 2017, according to a New York City Bar Association appendix that cited ICE and DHS data. The report said 455 New Yorkers apprehended by ICE had no prior contact with the criminal justice system, while 804 had pending criminal charges.
A separate WXXI report, based on government data obtained through open-records requests and analyzed with the Deportation Data Project, said ICE arrests in New York had already surpassed the total for all of 2024 by early July. Deportation Data Project faculty director David Hausman said monthly immigration arrests had roughly tripled nationwide since the inauguration, and arrests of people never charged with or convicted of a crime had gone up by about ten times.
