WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Washington hospital Sunday morning and is “receiving excellent care,” his office said, without disclosing why the 84-year-old Kentucky senator was hospitalized.

David Popp, McConnell’s spokesperson, later said the senator was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

McConnell’s office has not identified the hospital or said how long he is expected to remain there.

The hospitalization is McConnell’s second this year. Popp said in February that McConnell checked himself into a local hospital on the night of Feb. 2 for evaluation after experiencing “flu-like symptoms” over the prior weekend.

McConnell was discharged on Feb. 10, Popp said at the time. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
