NAPA, Calif., July 5 (Sonoma Times) — Napa County sheriff’s deputies referred a hit-and-run case involving Paul Pelosi, 86, to prosecutors after a July 3 collision in Yountville, and the sheriff’s office said a preliminary alcohol screening ruled out DUI.

Deputies responded about 2:30 p.m. to the 6700 block of Yount Street after a report that a brown convertible struck a legally parked car and drove away, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities said no injuries were reported.

The sheriff’s office said deputies later found Pelosi and that he admitted hitting something but said he did not know what he had struck. The office said the matter was referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for review, and a California Department of Motor Vehicles re-evaluation referral was expected.

Pelosi was not arrested, which the sheriff’s office said is common for misdemeanor offenses under California Penal Code section 853.6. A preliminary alcohol screening test showed 0.00, and deputies said driving under the influence was ruled out.

The latest case comes after Napa County prosecutors filed misdemeanor DUI-with-injury charges against Pelosi in 2022 over a May 28 collision in Napa County. In that case, the district attorney’s office said a blood sample showed a .082% blood alcohol content.
