BIG BEAR CITY, Calif., June 29 (Our Hesperia) — One of Jackie and Shadow’s eaglets, Sandy, fell from the Big Bear bald eagle nest Sunday morning in what Friends of Big Bear Valley described as an accidental fledge, or “fludge,” after livestream footage showed the bird lose its footing while flapping near the nest.

Friends of Big Bear Valley, which runs the nest camera, said Sandy appeared to move to another branch or tree out of view and was likely getting her bearings or resting. The nonprofit said Jackie stayed nearby and that the parents would follow Sandy and continue to feed and care for her.

The group said camera operators were still searching for Sandy after the fall. Sandy and her sibling Luna hatched in early April at the Big Bear nest in California, and the birds were about 12 weeks old.
